Welcome to
The VMS Lab
Primary Research Pillars
By investigating spinal cord injury (SCI) and neurodegenerative diseases in adult zebrafish, we aim to decipher the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying innate neuronal repair and regeneration.
Progenitor Landscape
Mapping progenitor cell landscapes that drive functional regeneration in the injured central nervous system.
Read moreNeuronal Plasticity
Performing high-throughput CRISPR/Cas9 genetic screening to identify novel intrinsic mechanisms governing long-term neuron survival and plasticity.
Read moreNeurodegenerative Diseases
Uncovering conserved cell repair mechanisms between spinal cord injury and progressive neurodegeneration, such as Tauopathies.

Principal Investigator
Dr. Vishnu Muraleedharan Saraswathy
Dr. Saraswathy is an incoming Assistant Professor at the Center for Neuroscience (CNS), Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore, India. The lab conducts cutting-edge research in innate spinal cord repair, applying single-cell transcriptomics and high-throughput genetic screenings in adult zebrafish to discover pathways that promote neuronal repair and regeneration. We are also passionate about teaching and mentoring students at all levels.
